CPAW NJ May 2020 Pawsitive Mews – HOW you can be a PAWSITIVE PAW IN ACTION

NJ Cat Rescue

Typically at this time of year, we’d be out trapping, holding training sessions, booking spay/neuter appointments and tending to a garage full of recovering cats.  And we will be again in MAY!  But our priorities temporarily changed when stay at home orders were announced. Check out our Pawsitive Paws in action!

AND MEOWY THANKS to all who have been a  mainstay in the Pawsitive Paws team….can’t thank you enough!    P.S.  watch for news on when we will start trapping again!  and read to the end about a special plea to help People for Animals continue its so desperately needed low cost spay/neuter operations during this time.

Our first priority right now:

Keeping animals FED

We’re organizing efforts to get dog AND cat food to local food banks and

to caregivers who feed colonies of outdoor cats.

Lend a Pawsitive Paw by:

  • Deliver pet food to folks in need, local food pantries, and/or colony caregivers.
  • Identify places distributing people food and seeing if they will accept pet food.
  • Share our fundraiser so we can keep purchasing food!
  • Meowy thanks to Pawsitive Paws team members Michael and Aja, and Amy, who have volunteered to host our cat and dog food pantries — and to those Pawsitive Paws who are tracking donations, picking up donations and delivering:  Michael, Jen, Amy, Brian, Kylie….just to name a few!  #CompassionwithaPurrpose

Other ideas are ALWAYS welcome — email us at cpawnj@gmail.com!

We hope to increase the number of pet food distribution points within the existing food distribution system AND decrease surrenders and abandonment. Right now we are distributing pet food to the Montclair Human Needs Food Pantry, Toni’s Kitchen, and the Nutley Family Service Bureau food pantry.   Brookdale Pet Center continues to work with us to get discounted pet food — and our pawtner People for Animals has donated food to our efforts.  Keep animals off the streets and out of shelters!

Donate NOW to get food to families and colony caregivers in need

We need all paws on deck!

OUR VOLUNTEERS ARE PAWSOME!   Soon we will begin TNVR again — with new safety measures and fewer appointments.  With the new social distancing guidelines, however, we hope you’ll let us know if you can help us by lending your PAWS to one of our PAWSITIVE EFORTS during this time.   Let us know at cpawnj@gmail.com.

Get Out & About While Social Distancing!

Community Cat Shuttle Driver:

Have a car? Free Mon am or pm?

We always need people to transport cats

to and from vet appointments.

Feline Food Distributor:

Help feed colonies who have lost their caregivers due to COVID-19.

Save Lives from Home!

  • Kitty Hotel Manager: Do you have a garage or basement? You could host cats for holding and recovery after spay/neuter surgeries. We provide supplies, training, and support. To trap more cats, we need more places for them to go!
  • TNR Support: Learn how to coach folks thru their situations and help them get help — basic knowledge with a huge dose of compassion go a long way in these times — training and lots of virtual hugs provided!
  • Kitten Socializer: Our network is small – too small to focus on anything but TNR. But with so many colonies getting out of control due to lack of spay/neuter during the pandemic, there will be a LOT of kittens born outside. They’ll need some loving before they adjust to indoor life. If that’s your thing, we have a volunteer who can’t wait to teach you!

We want to spread FACTS!

  • Are you like CPAW NJ resident cat Velma? Like to do research? Call around to find out which vets are open? Where folks can get food? What towns are supporting TNR efforts? WE NEED YOU, TOO!
  • Want to learn about what your town does for animals and how you could make it better? AdvoCATS are needed now more than ever, and we can get you started looking into whatever you are interested in helping with!
  • Like to make videos, graphics, and share information to increase awareness about what we do? There are still far too few folks who understand the importance of TNVR and spay/neuter in general. How would you spread the word???

You can PM us on FB or let us know at cpawnj@gmail.com.   Spread FACTS.

Low Cost spay/neuter is essential to reduce outdoor cat population and save lives.

Did you know:  that every $55 you donate so we can get an outdoor cat fixed and vaccinated is SUBSIDIZED BY People for Animals?   They’re a nonprofit dedicated to providing low cost spay/neuter and basic medical services.

You’ve heard us sing the praises of our pawtner People for Animals before. It is critical that we support them during this difficult time. If you find yourself in a situation where you can make a financial contribution, keeping PFA open and operational is key to Trap-Neuter-Return not only for CPAW NJ, but for all trappers in New Jersey!  Plus PFA has supported our food drive with food donations.  WE CAN’T DO WHAT WE DO WITHOUT THEM!
