CPAW NJ September Pawsitive Mews

August was hot and BUSY for both adoptions and continued spay/neuter.
Spay/Neuter:  59       Adoptions:  14

YOUR support makes this amount of lifesaving work possible!

We so appreciate those of you who continue to support us in so many ways, including monetary donations. In August we spent almost  $2,000.00 on food alone (much on kittens), and at an average of $75/cat for spay/neuter with no extraordinary medical expenses, we have large monthly expenses in addition to all of our wonderful volunteers who donate their time and energy to saving community cats.

Grateful for PAWTNERS Like Animal Protection League of NJ

19 of those cats were from a single location in East Orange. We are grateful to Animal Protection League of NJ’s Project TNR for a grant of $30 per cat to help with the costs of this location. One of the poor teenage moms gave birth in Karen’s garage the morning of the spay to a stillborn kitten and was rushed to Meadowlands Veterinary Hospital for emergency surgery. Due to a bacterial infection in her uterus, none of the kittens lived but mommy did ….Only because we were out there trapping her.   #tnrsaveslives

KITTEN YOGA ROCKED!

Meowy Thanks to Stacy Rosales, a woman with a beautiful light and generous heart who will turn anyone into a yoga lover! In memory of her beloved cat Samme, who passed away just a few weeks before our event, she sprung into action and along with the folks at Indigo Yoga hosted the registration for three yoga classes held at Cornerstone Montclair in Montclair. The classes were full and we raised $1200, which will be matched by $1000 grant from the Community Cats Podcast. And they are holding another Kitten Yoga on September 30, 2018 as the event was so popular! Register online at https://cpawnj.org/event/kitten-yoga-and-adoption-event/. Kittens and yoga seem to be a warmhearted, relaxing, sometimes hilarious combination.  Kitten Yoga Press Release

CAN YOU HELP US?

In September, we have a lot planned and we desperately need some helping paws in meeting our monthly goals: getting the rest of our kittens adopted, spaying/neutering another 35 cats, and introducing our new mascot, Capt Jack Miracle, to Montclair during the Upper Montclair Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, September 15.

You can:

  • Work an event for a couple of hours! See times and events below.
  • Come out trapping with us – all volunteers should experience it at least once! We will be trapping most Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings the next two months, depending on the cats and the weather.
  • Be a cat taxi driver….we always need folks to drive cats to and from spay/neuter.
  • Help do laundry and/or wash traps.

WE NEED LOTS OF POSTERS HUNG FOR EVENT AWARENESS…CAN YOU HELP?

And of course, you can always share our posts on social media and promote your favorite CPAW NJ cat for adoption….just stay tuned to FB as we showcase our beauties, often in bonded, friendly as can be, pairs. All of them are fully vetted and ready for same day adoption. AND THE BEST PART….SEPTEMBER SELLOUT PRICE IS $75 FOR ONE, $125 FOR TWO.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Almost impossible to do….and sometimes the only chance for survival…our heartfelt thanks go out to Nicole and Madison Decker who have now successfully relocated 2 sets of outdoor cats in the backyard of their Essex County home.
Madison recorded it from the beginning, sharing her journal and pictures with classmates and reading to them daily. Look at them now!
It took weeks and weeks of patient feeding and outside the pen love and attention, but if you have the time and a bit more love in your heart, let us know.
The first two cats, Nellie and Nibbles, are now almost family; Nibbles sleeps on the back porch. And Athena and Beauty are out of their custom-made outdoor shelters (thanks, Dave Varga!) and acclimating nicely.

LOVE LOVE LOVE to Nicole and Madison Decker from
