NJ Cat Rescue

March E-Blast

Our 2019 Campaign to BEAT THE HEAT!

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have saved a lot of lives since we began in April of 2017. Meowy THANKS! #compassionwithapurrpose

BIGGEST LESSON LEARNED:  Making low-cost spay/neuter widely available is the single most effective action to take to reduce shelter intake and save lives!

BEAT THE HEAT 2019 Action Plans

  • PFA LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER VAN last Tuesday of every month to Acme parking lot in Montclair
  • Creation and support of ADVOCAT town teams throughout northern NJ
  • Beat the Heat Fundraising Campaign
  • Raise awareness and educate with The Cat RescuersDocumentary

HOSTING MONTHLY LOW-COST SPAY VAN IN MONTCLAIR

So March through November we have teamed up with the state’s largest low-cost spay/neuter nonprofit, People for Animals, to bring the low-cost spay van to Montclair and are registering both companion animals and feral cats to be spayed.  It’s the LAST TUESDAY of every month. Registration is simple:  email us at cpawnj@gmail.com and we’ll get the details to you!

We are also doing everything we can to support folks throughout northern NJ by helping them build local teams who can do TNR, educate local folks, and help change local ordinances, if necessary.

Hoping that each town team will sign up for local outreach events and we will supply advocacy materials and train volunteers about the basics of WHY SPAY/NEUTER your cat and HOW TO HELP OUTDOOR CATS THRU TNVR!   We will be training folks in the field to do tnr, loaning traps, and giving guidance on how to deal with particular situations.

LET US KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE AND IF YOU WANT TO JOIN OR EVEN LEAD YOUR TOWN TEAM…..we are researching local laws, what local resources and groups are available, and want to be able to lift up folks in each community to implement the lifesaving solution of TNR for community cats.    IT SAVES LIVES.

ANNOUNCING OUR NEW VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR:

YVETTE WADE

Yvette’s spirit and enthusiasm are now being put to the best use as our Volunteer Coordinator.  Look for volunteer emails from her the third week of the month.  Questions or want to be added to the volunteer email list?  Yvette can be reached atyvette.d.wade@gmail.com

“I went from being terrified of cats, to adopting one, to adopting another in the span of a few weeks! Quite a journey, huh? After a few months of volunteering, I’ve been lucky enough to become CPAW NJ’s Volunteer Coordinator! Since volunteering with CPAW I have been able to lend a hand wherever needed – whether it be transport, trapping, or coordination. I’ve figured out that there are endless opportunities that CPAW offers and that’s where YOU come in. I guarantee if you have a skill or specific interest, there’s a place for you! Four paws are always better than one! So chances are if you’re getting the Volunteer E-Blast, or filling out a volunteer form for a specific event, this is ME trying to teach YOU! Meow for now! (Bye for now)” – Yvette

spotlight on a new volunteer:

BARBIE MARTINO

Barbie, a Montclair resident, came to us through a friend of CPAW NJ AND from her love of cats. What a cheery can-do person to join our volunteer tribe!

Barbie also needed help with a sick outdoor cat, so volunteered to learn to trap and transport. Unfortunately, the cat was so ill it was humanely euthanized.  Heartbreaking.  She is now extra energized to helping with TNVR to save lives!

SUPPORT THE BEAT THE HEAT FUNDRAISER

(Yes, you knew there would be an ask.)  We can’t do this without ongoing funds to support our efforts.

We are an all-volunteer organization that relies on your generous support.

If you’ve never donated before, how about a $5 a month donation?  That’s $60 a year and would spay/neuter one community cat!

If you can make a bigger impact, how about a one time donation of $100, which would allow us to help someone get their pet spayed when they can’t afford it themselves?

And if you want to help us create a voucher program for the monthly spay van, how about a $550 donation to help us defray the costs of 10 tnvr cats at one of the spay vans?  Many folks feed and can learn to trap but can’t afford the spay costs.
